Terms of use

These are the terms for using Put it up. The site sells nothing and needs no account, so they are mostly about what an answer can and cannot tell you.

One person who likes putting things up, and likes it better when they stay up

Who runs Put it up?

Put it up is run by the person described under Run by at the top of this page and at the foot of every page. In these terms, we and us mean that person. The contact page says how to reach us.

Can I rely on an answer from Put it up?

You can rely on an answer for what it says: how your item compares with the maker's own figure and conditions, as the maker published them on the date shown. It is not a promise that anything will stay up. We cannot see your wall, your item or the way it is fitted.

The maker's figure is the most it is rated for, not a target, and some makers say their figures are typical values. tesa, for example, writes on its product sheets: The values in this section should be considered representative or typical only and should not be used for specification purposes.

Where a maker's own instructions for its product differ from anything on this site, the maker's instructions come first.

Who is responsible if I drill into a wall?

You are. Whether and where to drill is your decision, and so is any damage to a wall, a cable, a pipe or a deposit. Before you drill sets out the checks that makers, retailers, NICEIC and an electrical safety charity publish for cables, pipes and studs.

Is Put it up professional advice?

No. Put it up gives general information from makers' published figures and instructions. It is not a substitute for a builder or an electrician who can look at your wall.

Do you promise there are no mistakes?

No. We check every figure against its source and correct mistakes in public on the corrections page, but we cannot promise that every page is right, or that the site is always available.

Nothing in these terms limits any liability that the law does not allow to be limited.

Can I share or reuse what is on Put it up?

You may link to any page and share a link to an answer. Please do not copy the text or drawings in bulk or present them as your own. Quotations belong to the makers and bodies that published them, as the Sources page shows.

When do these terms change?

These terms change when the site changes in a way that affects them. The date at the top of this page shows the last change.
